Chem 335HONORS ORGANIC CHEMISTRY (I)
This class is my first official organic chemistry class and the introduction to intensive organic chemistry. In this class I learned more sophisticated methods of electron pushing, along with the basic reactions of organic chemistry. Although the subject may seem simplistic to those well-versed in it, to a beginner it is a completely different world. There are new rules and different types of molecules that we work with. Dr. Chatterjee often went off into interesting tangents, and I learned a lot, both from the material assigned and from is fun facts and additional information. I have attached the final exam, which I found particularly difficult, although it was also interesting. This was the first class in which I learned about NMR spectroscopy in depth, along with some other spectroscopic identification methods. The spectroscopy problem on the final was one of the first of many, and a good application of the skills we were meant to learn.
Honors 220 CMEDICAL ETHICS
This class was one of the most thought provoking classes I have taken at the University of Washington. Dr. Draper was an excellent professor and had experience with the material. As a result class discussions were rarely one-sided and all sides of each ethical dilemma was concerned. Through this class I learned to write papers on topics without black and white solutions and, through meetings with Dr. Draper, learned to make my essays stronger. Furthermore, I gained experience in the dilemmas of policy making and how to create viable laws based on ethics through the CRISPR law written by my group in an effort to govern the research on pigs for kidney transplants.
BIOL 200INTRODUCTORY BIOLOGY (II)
Dr. Schivell's method of teaching the class was possibly the best experience I had with the introductory biology classes. I enjoyed the class and learned a lot about molecular biology - enough to become more interested in functions on the molecular level and to apply for the Biology MCD major as a double major. The class taught me a lot about the effect of structure on function, and the importance of the relationship between the two. I have attached my copy of my final for the exam. Although I did not do fantastic on it, I enjoyed the application of problems to current issues - especially the problem about how He Jiankui modified embryos to make them immune to HIV.
