My trip to Vancouver during Spring Break of freshman year was the first independent trip I have ever taken. In the past, all my trips were with my parents and they handled every detail of the journey. This time, I was in charge of the trip instead, and I learned that I am much more comfortable planning trips and knowing every aspect than sitting around blindly without any inkling as to the day's itinerary. It was my job to find the AirBNB and figure out travel to Vancouver by Greyhound and, at the end of the day, we were pleased with the results.

The AirBNB was cute and the owners were friendly and accomodating. The house was in the suburbs so we gained experience with the TransLink system in Vancouver, which was actually extremely convenient and ran fairly late at night. We arrived there late on a Friday night, and stayed the following Saturday night before checking out on Sunday and taking the Greyhound back.

Our trip had two main attractions: Stanley Park and Granville Island. I barely remembered Vancouver, in all honesty, and, in the short time period we had, it seemed that the two were good places to go.
This was my first ever (in memory) bike trip around Stanley Park, which was more enjoyable that I would have thought. Biking has always been fun, and the cheap rental prices, along with the beautiful view was a fun time. We took a few hours to bike around the park and had a lot of fun doing so. Our other destination was Granville Island, which is a popular tourist area with cute small shops, a public market, and interesting architecture. On a side-note: Granville Island Gelato & Coffee House quickly became one of my favorite ice cream shops. The flavors were delicious and the prices surprisingly low, even for the the cones we're holding in the photo to the right. Furthermore, it was a fun place to explore - similar to Pike Place but completely new to me. Overall, the Vancouver trip was a success and an experience worth the long trip and commutes. We met some cute dogs and had a good time, which is all that really matters. Beyond that, I was able to gain more experience with being a Real Adult and planning out realistic trips which were still exciting. |
